Sodium Sulfate

Sodium Sulfate is a kind of white crystalline powder with a chemical formula of Na2SO4. Its melting point is 884°C. It is soluble in water, glycerin, but insoluble in ethanol. When exposed to the air, it will easily absorb moisture and become sodium sulfate of sweat. It’s used as a caramel coloring agent, and food coloring diluent.

Application

Sodium sulfate, commonly known as Glauber’s salt, is an important raw material in light and chemical industries, widely used in over 20 sectors including chemicals, textiles, construction materials, pharmaceuticals, fertilizers, and synthetic fibers. In the paper industry, it is used for producing sulfate pulp; in the glass industry, it replaces soda ash; in the dye industry, it serves as a filler; and in the pharmaceutical industry, it acts as a laxative and an antidote for barium salt poisoning. Additionally, it finds applications in the production of synthetic fibers, leather, non-ferrous metallurgy, ceramic glazes, and soaps. Anhydrous sodium sulfate (Na2SO4) is used in industries such as vinylon, soda ash, bleaching, synthetic detergents, glass, papermaking, leather, oil and gas pipeline corrosion prevention, metal smelting, surface treatment, and fillers. In the coming years, sodium sulfate is expected to see significant growth in traditional application industries such as detergents, textile printing and dyeing, glass, and sulfate ash, as well as in many emerging fields. As production scales increase and industry consolidation enhances concentration, the market is transitioning from disorderly competition to rational competition, leading to a more reasonable product structure. Market prices are expected to gradually rise, with average industry profit margins increasing. China is the largest exporter of sodium sulfate, enjoying a high reputation globally. In 2005, China’s sodium sulfate export volume was approximately 1.9 million tons, reaching 2.04 million tons in 2006.

Textile Industry

Sodium sulfate has a vital role in the textile industry. To facilitate uniform dye penetration into textile fibers, they added sodium to boost the ionic strength of the solution and so “level” or reduce the negative electrical charges on the fibers.

Metallurgical Industry

Helps lower the melting point, facilitating the melting and refining of metals. It can also react with other metal oxides to form easily removable slag.

Chemical Materials

In the chemical industry, it is used as a raw material for producing sodium sulfide, sodium silicate, and other chemical products.

Food Industry

For example, sodium is used to dilute food dyes in the food sector.

Detergent Production

In the detergent industry, sodium sulfate is used as a filler, typically accounting for about 45% of the total detergent weight.

Glass Manufacturing

In the glassmaking business, sodium is used as a fining agent to aid in the elimination of microscopic air bubbles in the liquid glass.

Packaging & Storage

Packing:

Packed with polyethylene plastic bag as the inner liner and compound plastic woven bag as the outer layer.

PPPE bags with 50kg/1000kg weight capacity per bag

Storage:

Store in a cool, well-ventilated warehouse, away from ignition sources and heat. It should be stored separately from acids and must not be mixed with them. The storage area should be equipped with suitable materials to contain any spills.
